Disk Xray Lite - Hard drive maintenance utility
Disk Xray Lite provides you with a set of useful hard drive analysis and cleanup tools. The application can help you figure out which files take up the most disk space, locate duplicates and remove junk data. It is an excellent way of keeping a computer in a good working condition. Using the application is quite easy, even for beginners, due to its straight forward design and easy to understand controls.
Options for performing a disk space usage analysis and for finding and removing duplicate files or junk data can be found on three separate tabs, on a clean and efficient user interface. All you have to do is select a folder, click a button and the application will start scanning right away. The results are displayed on the lower part of the user interface and you can delete, access or perform other actions on individual items, with the available controls on the upper part of the window.
Analyzing the disk space usage is a smooth process. Once a folder has been scanned, its contained files and folders are displayed together with colored bars, which indicate the amount of space they are using. What's more, the software can color code documents, pictures, audio files, videos or binary files and it can also highlight one of these file types.
The application's duplicate finder comes with a few options for narrowing down the search. You can set the finder to look for files between certain sizes, aim it at system sub-folders and hidden folders and more.
The cleanup feature is the only one that doesn't require selecting a folder. All you have to do is click a button and the application will immediately show you all files in the Downloads folder, application caches, web browser caches and cookies, application logs, trash and mail downloads. You can select single items or entire groups and remove them with a single click. Also, the application provides a few useful selection options, for targeting files that are bigger than a certain value or older than a preset amount of time.
Pros:
The application is lightweight and easy to use. It can help you clean up your hard drive and figure out what data is taking up most of your available disk space.
Cons:
The free version comes with some restrictions, including a timed nag screen.
